Clean According to your Lifestyle
Are you a visual artist that prefers working with oils and acrylics? Do you have playful pets or rambunctious children? These are the factors we consider when devising a cleaning plan for your home. Most cleaning companies will recommend a fixed cleaning schedule that benefits their bottom line. At Advanced Carpet Cleaning, we take into account your location, family size and foot traffic. If your home is surrounded by farm land, your floors are bound to take a beating. Customers that travel most of the year are more concerned with preservation and maintenance. While clients with large families are focused on prevention and deep cleaning.
Dirty Floor Prevention
Many of our customers raise horses and have opted for hardwood floors because they are low maintenance and render a natural aesthetic. Make your home a no-shoe zone to prevent dirt, manure and other debris from infiltrating your home. If you’re uncomfortable with this suggestion, place heavy duty door mats at your front and back doors. Make sure visitors and everyone in your family wipes their feet before entering your home. When service providers arrive to install cable, fix the plumbing or do electrical work, request that they wear shoe covers. They usually have them in the truck or on their person. Don’t allow your pets to trample mud and dirt throughout the house. Wipe their paws before entering.
How Not to Clean Hardwood Floors
Water is not your friend – not when it comes to hardwood floors. Water has the potential to gradually remove the polyurethane finish and cause warping. Steam should never be used to clean hardwood floors. Many professional and DIY gurus will recommend using a vacuum cleaner to remove surface dirt, before applying a wet cleaning solution. It’s a common mistake that we do not advise. The vacuum cleaner can scrape and dent the surface. Don’t use brooms that have been used outdoors or on concrete surfaces. They are extremely abrasive and will damage your expensive hardwood floors. Lastly, avoid using waxes because they will dull the finish.
Steps to Cleaning Hardwood Floors
Cleaning hardwood floors is easy. It would be in our best interest to tell you that it’s a complicated process, but we’d be lying like a rug (see what we did there?) The key in effectively cleaning and maintaining hardwood floors is using the appropriate solutions and equipment. We begin the process by dusting the floor in the direction of the grain. In some cases, we’ll use a specially designed broom. A micro fiber cleaning pad is used to dislodge dirt along with a neutral water based solution complete with a drying agent as a key ingredient. For difficult areas, the cleaner will use a textured, mesh, acrylic pad. Done – there’s no need to rinse dry. We also offer stain removal service.
